최고의 기타 음반 50위 (GuitarWorld 선정)

비슷한 류의 차트가 워낙에 많은 탓에 다분히 중복되는 아티스트와 음반들이 적지않게 보인다
그럼에도 꾸준히 차트에 대한 포스팅을 하는 이유는
나름의 집대성이요 결과적으로 내가 잊고 지낸 소중한 음반을 되새기며
나만의 음반 베스트 1,000선을 꼽고 싶을 따름이다

기타월드가 미국 잡지임을 충분히 감안하고 살펴봐야 할 차트다
하드락의 전성시대를 일궜던 많은 밴드 중
리치 블랙모어의 딥 퍼플은 유독 빠져있음은 다분히 그들의 음악이 서양세계에서는
평가절하되고 있다는 반증이다 (펜타토닉 스케일이 다분히 동양적 정서가 있긴 하다만)

속주류의 정서가 결여된 듯한 연주자들도 배제되어 있는 것은
본 차트가 단순히 테크닉이라는 잣대만으로 평가되지 않았다는 느낌도 강하다
(캐코포니 같은 음반은 필히 언급될 필요가 있을텐데말이다)

제일 섭섭한 것은 존 페트루치의 부재다
역사적 의미를 찾기엔 억지스러움도 있겠지만
드림 씨어터의 역작 <images and words> 혹은 <awake>정도는
충분히 랭크될만한 가치는 있을것이다

에릭 존슨이나 프랭크 켐벨 등이 보이지 않는 것도 그 장르를
Rock에 국한시킨 탓일게다

그러나 다른 차트에서 볼 수 없었던 판테라, 툴, 슬레이어 같은 밴드들이
대거 랭크되어 적당한 수준의 보수적 판단은 넘어섰다고 보여진다
지극히 정상적이면서도 예리하게 뽑아낸 차트다
관심있게 살펴봐도 좋을 듯  하다
